Mixing & Matching Sets The biggest thing to be aware of is that due to the different pull, you can’t run Shimano levers with Campagnolo calipers and vice versa. Older road cycles will probably have single pivot brakes, whereas modern designs are mostly dual pivot and provide more controlled and powerful braking. If you want to run mudguards with caliper brakes and find that you lack the clearance required for the particular model of mudguard, then you could fit some calipers with a bigger drop; 49mm is usually sufficient.
